An Adventure Into Abstract Gaming
Hi everyone,
I've become aquainted with most frequent users here, ok its not a ton, but I think this forum will grow as X10 does.
Anyhow, onto what I have to show you guys, this is an idea I toyed around with in X9, but thanks to its graphical limitations, it never worked out. X10 has some beatiful fog and water, so I re-kindled my excitement for this project after a while playing around with X10.
In case you hate reading subject lines, this is really an abstract game. I figure, hey, there's abstract paintings, and probably abstract books and movie's, why not try a new, more interactive medium.
Enough blabbing already, time for some info; this game is called "Stolker", note the "o" instead of an "a". Noramlly I'm a bit of a spelling/grammar freak, but this was too good a pun to pass off It's pretty much stalker+stock (as in stock media) put together. Essentially, its a game set in a whacky world covered in a thick fog. One moment you can be blasting aliens with a BFG-wannabee, the next, fighting German troops from behind the wreckage of a tank. You meet allies, pick-up all kinds of weapons and ammo and try to make your way to a teleporter, which will need a power sphere to fuction. At the end (I'm guessing about 5 levels) you get the nice ending which should answer all your questions about WTH is going on in this game.
So, I get some pre-entity (there won't be many anyhow, mostly baddies) screenies for you:
If this game succeeds, I will move on to my game with a deep storyline and more serious and realistic angle.

Re: An Adventure Into Abstract Gaming
...
You know, I really think you're on to something, I'm honestly impressed. In particular, the second and third screenshot. Reminds me of the Matrix and 2001 Space Oddessey...
Something that I think would make it more abstract would be if you added a certain architecture style to it. I mean like for example only include geometric objects, or geometric shapes or whatever.
I actually have something vaguely similar planned for the game I'm working on (a part where the character is sort of in a dream world and everything is weird). I really like this concept of abstract games...

Re: An Adventure Into Abstract Gaming
Well I haven't added Mr. Bubbles the killer clown yet, but thanks I guessLooks funny (-;
And I didn't even need to go trippin' to think it up ThanksWow...this is really trippy. I like it!
I sure hope so, I plan to make around 5 levels, as each level progresses, the "fog of amnesia" lessens making it less dreamlike each time. At the start, each building is a prism, usually a rectangulaur one, and they obviously defy the laws of physics. The only hard thing is finding voice actors. Or for that matter deciding if I want talking. A demo may be up this week without VO....

Re: An Adventure Into Abstract Gaming
OK, got a new screenshot for you guys. This is going more for a "creepy" theme. At the start of the level, you hear random bursts of gunfire and moans of pain. I also placed random sound zones around low-action areas to add some ambiance.

Re: An Adventure Into Abstract Gaming
Thanks for all the support guys. I regret to annouce that the game demo will be delayed due to a huge number of bug. See the "I Need Help Please" thread in the showcase if you want more detail on what I'm experiencing. Once I've ironed out the worst of the bugs, a demo is in order.

Announcment: Consider all my FPSC X10 projects canceled, including my entry into any compo. FPSC X10 won't behave for any of my projects and I meet or exceed the recommended FPSC X10 requirements. Nickydude, can you lock this please?
In the event I ever manage to get something working properly, I'll ask Nickydude to unlock this thread, but for now, I have a feeling X10 is too problematic to get anything done.

Re: An Adventure Into Abstract Gaming
That's too bad, but yeah, X10 has too many problems right now.
Nickydude isn't one of the moderators here, but I'll lock it for you. Just PM me or one of the mods if/when you want it unlocked
