A few of my segments...
Since learning a lot from the Texture Tutorial, I've been hard at work making new X10 segments. Here are a few of them in action...
Here's my Ice segment, with a few stock decorations...It was the first custom segment I ever made
My rusty metal segment to test the specular mapping...
And one of my better ones, the red carpet...
All of these I finished a while ago, but I thought I'd see what everyone thinks of them...
Cheers!

Re: A few of my segments...
As soon as I get everything set up, yes, I will be releasing them in the store. What I did was just make new textures, the models are the stock ones. And yeah, some of them will be prizes (as well as some you guys haven't seen), but I won't say which ones

Re: A few of my segments...
Most people don't realize this, but when it comes down to it, it's really the textures that make or break good media. You can have a simple model, or even a crappy one, but with the right diffuse/normal/specular maps, it could rival any modern game.
But enough of that!
Here's a new screenshot!
The lighting is weird I know, but then at the time I was more focused on seeing how close I could get to what I envision for the game I'm making, with the media I had at the time. The doors and lights are the stock ones.

Re: A few of my segments...
When will these be released? I can't wait! I love the blood smearing. It reminds me of Bioshock. Excellent work!!!
Re: A few of my segments...
Join the FPSC X10 SCI-FI Compo and you get them for free if you win
Now theres an incentive to join these are very nice

Great news everyone! I've got everything set up in the store, so I'm now a seller. I don't have anything up yet as I'm in the process of uploading my stuff so they should be up soon. Sometime within the next few days I'd expect; I don't know how fast the process is.

Re: A few of my segments...
Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone!
Alright, here's one more segment. This one's my baby, I consider it to be one of my best so far, but I'll leave it up to you . This is one of my elite segments the first place winner will get in the sci-fi competition. Naturally it includes normal and specular maps, that level of detail wouldn't be possible otherwise.
The best part? It won't make your pc lag any more than any of my other segments. All my segments run great on my pc and I'm running with an 8500 gt...
Expect this one to cost more than the others once I have them up in the store ...

Re: A few of my segments...
Is the smeared blood an overlay or is it part of the segment?Jingle Fett wrote:Most people don't realize this, but when it comes down to it, it's really the textures that make or break good media. Re: A few of my segments...
Yeah, the blood is an overlay. I redid the existing blood overlay..and then, though I wasn't sure it'd work, gave it a normal and specular map to make it glisten like that. As you can see it worked... Oddly enough though, for some reason parts of it that were semi-transparent don't show up. I've tried everything I could think of but nothing. That's why the blood streaks aren't more smeared into the ground...it seems like it's all or nothing, completely visible or completely transparent.

Re: A few of my segments...
After some consideration I've decided to show my segments in the Models and Media thread on the TGC forums, in case anyone is interested. The reason I didn't do so before is because I'm usually rather quiet about my work...but I've gotten really positive responses here, so I'm sure they'll be welcomed there.

Re: A few of my segments...
Ok, this isn't exactly a new segment, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to show off a teaser screenshot of a work in progress...using a combination of custom media and stock media. Hmm...something seems to be leaving a shadow on the wall, I wonder what it could be... Not a stock enemy, that's for sure
Notice the light beams coming from the lights at the end of the corridor though...that's something new...
On another note, my bloodsmear segment is in the store and will be available for 200 points as soon as it has been approved. That's a little more than most other overlays but then, most overlays don't look like this one does. The blood overlay is the same one in the picture above the one of the mossy bricks...and will also be a prize in the competition.
